The Alexander Technique

Widely used by perfomers, the Alexander Technique is  as a means of undoing bad habits that inhibit the free use of the body and voice, but can be of benefit to anyone.

The Alexander Technique was developed by Frederick Matthias Alexander (1869 - 1955), an Australian orator who had begun to lose his voice during performances. Not getting an adequate explanation for this from doctors, he observed his own behaviour in the mirror. He observed that how he was using his body was causing his problems and from his observations developed a technique to help bring about awareness and a re-education of the mind and body.
